Course Introduction：

The course is lead by Professor Pietro Elisei, President of the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP) and EU Urban Policy Advisor. It explores core issues of contemporary urban transformation from a global perspective: from a multidisciplinary interpretation of design concepts to the deep integration of sustainable development and intergenerational justice; from innovative governance models and public participation mechanisms to urban regeneration strategies that combine cultural heritage with nature-based solutions; and it also delves into systemic challenges such as transportation transformation and urban regeneration. Through seven carefully designed modules, the course integrates cutting-edge EU policies with practical cases from the Mediterranean region, providing students with a professional framework that connects strategic planning with local practice and fostering future-oriented urban leadership. It explores how strategic planning can shape a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable urban future within the dual context of globalization and climate change.
